Officers Elected

Local 164 Bus. Mgr. Richard Dressel (seated, third from
left) and Pres. J. David Milazzo (seated, fourth from left),
with fellow newly elected officers.

L.U. 164 (c,i,o&t), JERSEY CITY, NJLocal 164 held its election of officers June 3, 2004. For the convenience of our members who live throughout the state of New Jersey, polls remained open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Prior to the election candidates met with a representative of the U.S. Department of Labor, who clarified federal laws dealing with labor union elections. Because of the hard work and professionalism of election judges Bruce Englebrecht and Russell Solleder, along with our dedicated election tellers, the election was conducted without a hitch.

Officers elected for the 2004-2007 term are: Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Richard Dressel, Pres. J. David Milazzo, Vice Pres. Barry Hammond, Rec. Sec. John DeBouter and Treas. Charles Mattson; Executive Board members James Fortunato, Dan Gumble, Todd Heuer, Kevin Marion, Tom Sullivan, Tom Walker and Eric Zebrowski; Examining Board members Frank Cappa, Manny Espinoza, Terrence Lee, Ray Manfred and Paul Zawartkay. Convention delegates: John DeBouter, James Duffy, Jeff Gallup, Charles Mattson, Keith Misciagna, John Nordyk, Marty Schwartz, Ed Werner. Convention alternates: Steve Clay and Denise Mandeville.

Congratulations to all newly elected officers and many thanks for an outstanding job to Tom Manzi and Billy Price, recently retired from Local 164s Executive Board.

David Millazzo, Pres.

Send Bush Back

L.U. 176 (es,i,rts&spa), JOLIET, ILCome November, we have a chance to change the outlook for our future and that of our children. Lets turn out the vote for the presidential election. The IBEW is getting the word out with the Mobilization 2004 campaign, and at the local level the word is being passed on to the membership.

If you look at the work outlook for locals across the country, you will see that we are in a war of our lives. Everything thats good for labor is being stripped from us. Our civil rights are threatened. Sending jobs overseas is not the way to employ the very people who vote. This November lets send the Bush/Cheney team to the back of the unemployment line.

Work around our area is slow, with small jobs about the only source of employment. Residential work has been steady, but not booming as in recent years.

Paul Ewing, P.S.

Our Recovery

L.U. 180 (c,i,o&st), VALLEJO, CAAs reported last time we have waited for that recovery that was "just around the corner." It looks as if we are at the corner and we see the start of good projects for the next few years. Not huge in size, just a huge amount of small to medium projects.

Genentech has signed a PLA for phase two. Most of the process equipment is under production elsewhere and will be skid mounted. Prefab has reached new levels and thus reduced the amount of work needed at the job site. Opportunity for Book II hands would be in the second quarter of 2005

California has a lot of school work that takes place each summer. We did have calls going unfilled. Within three days of posting the need for skilled electricians on the IBEW job board we were able to fill these calls. Thanks to all for the help and you all are welcome back next July and Augustlooks like we will need the help again!

Please see the additional information on the work picture page of our web site and e-mail us with your questions.

Vote Your Paycheck

L.U. 196 (govt,mt,o,t&u), ROCKFORD, ILWe congratulate the newly elected officers elected in June 2004: Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Edgar R. Mings Jr., Pres. Rod Brossart, Vice Pres. Jerry Cass, Treas. Steve Jones and Rec. Sec. Andy Taft; Executive Board members Rich Reed, Bill Holloway and Tim Shales; and Examining Board members Ed Lawler, Phil Fishbeck and Ron Henry. Delegates to the International Convention are Edgar R. Mings Jr., Rod Brossart and Andy Taft.

At the time of this writing, our outside construction is holding steady but may have slowed considerably in August. Our Telephone and CATV work is very slowwe have over 80 percent unemployment in this field.

We finally had the Flagg-Rochelle Park District withdraw its petition for appeal of the unit we won on two other occasions. So we will move forward with negotiations. This was more than a year-long fight but the IBEW did prevail. We have other organizing campaigns we will be moving forward on.

A reminder to all our members: VOTE in every election and vote your paycheck. Make sure you attend all your local union meetings.

Edgar R. Mings Jr., B.M./F.S.
