October 2004 IBEW Journal Big Storm Hits Little Co-op
L.U. 1426 (i,o,rtb, spa&u), GRAND FORKS, NDOn May 11 an ice storm rolled through northern North Dakota and ripped down approximately 700 power line poles of Cavalier Rural Electric Co-op. To make matters worse, mud prevented the line trucks from getting close enough to the poles and when they were able to get close they had to be pulled out by tractors. Crews from the Rural Electric Co-ops of Nodak, PKM, Red River, Wild Rice and Cass County were called in to help the five-man co-op restore power to customers. The storm work completed is just another example of the expertise and professionalism of Local 1426 linemen. On November 2 organized labor has the chance to elect labor-friendly candidates to local state and federal offices. Do the research on candidates positions on labor issues. We all know Bush is not on organized labors side. Before you mark you ballot stop and think about what your wages and benefits would be without organized labor and the protections you have with your collective bargaining agreement. Local 1426s anniversary celebration is Dec. 11, 2004, in Grand Forks. Scott Sansburn, V.P. Color Guard Performance
L.U. 1464 (u), KANSAS CITY, MOOur local union election of officers was held in June. Many thanks to all those interested in serving our members. Congratulations and best wishes to the officers elected. We now have a Color Guard comprising former Marines. They performed at a rededication to a Workers Memorial and at the funeral of a fallen IBEW member from a sister local. These gentlemen deserve fine recognition for their commitment and performance. They will be a presence at many events to come. Susan Cowart, R.S. Officers Elected
