Bus. Mgr. Driscoll Retires

L.U. 2150 (govt, lctt,o&u), MILWAUKEE, WIBus. Mgr. Timm Driscoll retired May 31, 2004. Recognized for his dedication to the labor movement, Tim provided our local with excellent leadership during his 13 years in office.

Bro. Driscolls major accomplishments included helping to make the merged Local 377 members feel welcome as a part of a utility local. He successfully organized independent Local 2 at Wisconsin Electric into Local 2150 and was successful in merging nine utility contracts into a single contract. He hired a full-time Local 2150 organizer, and the locals organizing efforts have been widely recognized, including in the Journal.

Tim was the driving force and co-founder of the Utility Workers Coalition.

He founded the IBEW Great Lakes Training Trust, established to promote diversity in utility construction and to provide training for and assist outside construction members. He was the first elected president of the Wisconsin IBEW State Conference with a utility background.

Bro. Dirscoll earned the respect of his peers, co-workers and members he represented. He will be missed. We thank him for everything he has done and wish him all the best for a long and successful retirement.

L.U. 2286 (o&u), BEAUMONT, TXIn June our local celebrated its 35th anniversary. We decided to do something to give back to our communities, our families and ourselves in the name of our union.

So, we scheduled a blood drive at every meeting location for the month of June. Among the first Local 2286 members to donate was lineman 1st class Jason B. Littleton, who stepped up to donate at the Lake Charles, LA, meeting on June 10.

We look forward to participating in future Local 2286 blood drives, as a good way to let the community know that union brothers and sisters are their neighbors.

The Texas Democratic Convention was held June 17-19 in Houston. John J. Baker, journey maintenance operator, Sabine Station, was re-elected for his fourth term as committeeman to the state Democratic Executive Committee representing Senate District 4.

Bro. Baker was also appointed legislative director of the Texas State Association of Electrical Workers at the convention in Galveston June 21-22.
