We recently were engaged in an organizing campaign for the workers of Transcontinental Pipeline, owned by Williams Companies. New Jersey was carved out from Pennsylvania and New York for the vote. The election was held and the employees voted against being represented. The presidential election is coming up and we need to VOTE. We cannot put up with another four years of this administration. The local is working to get everyone registered so you can exercise your right to VOTE. Charles Hassler, B.A. Lame Duck Nightmare
L.U. 102 (c,catv,i,it,o&t), PATERSON, NJThe annual apprentice graduation dinner was held at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany. Thirty-two apprentice graduates were promoted to residential wiremen; 85 to journeyman wiremen; and 20 graduated as teledata technicians. Congratulations to William Schwenk who scored the highest five-year GPA, and to all graduates on achieving their new classifications. The 2004 presidential election is upon us, and polls indicate an extremely close race. We must elect labor-friendly candidates. George Bush has made sure working class families in America are worse off than they were four years ago. He actually rewards corporations for taking American jobs overseas. He also continues to cut federal funding for our police and fire departments while building them in Iraq. The anti-union Bush administration would be our worst nightmare during a lame-duck term. We must beat Bushagain! This time all votes will countmake sure yours does too! Remember to update your voter registration if you have moved recently. To register, contact your union hall or the town hall. Please contact your union hall to ask how you can get involved. Encourage your friends and family to register and to vote John Kerry for president. Joe Nitti, P.S. Turn Our Country Around L.U. 104 (lctt,o&u), BOSTON, MAOn June 17, 2004, Local 104 held its election of officers. Tiler Eaton was elected business manager/financial secretary. Newly elected officers were sworn in by Int. Vice Pres. Frank J. Carroll at the July monthly meeting. We wish Tiler and all the officers the very best. Also elected were: Pres. Stephen ODonnell, Vice Pres. Thomas Healey, Treas. Hugh Boyd and Rec. Sec. Robert Ward; Executive Board members Wayne Bateman, William Brennick, Ernest Dechene, Brian Murphy and David Pratt; and Examining Board members John Greenleaf, Guy Place and Thomas Rand. Work in the jurisdiction is still good. Nearly all our journeyman linemen and apprentices are working, plus a few travelers. We expect the work to last through the end of the year and beyond. We were proud that Boston hosted the National Democratic Convention. Now is our chance to get behind John Kerry and John Edwards and turn this country around. Working people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. With all the jobs that have gone overseas, we must elect candidates who support American workers. Weve seen what four years of George W. have done to us. Lets see what a worker-friendly president can do. Vote! Robert E. Ward, R.S. Charity Tournament L.U. 108 (ees,em,es,lctt, mar,mt, rtb, rts,s,spa,t&u), TAMPA, FLThe unions eighth annual golf tournament was held May 15. It was a tremendous success and raised over $20,000. With TECOs generous match, over $40,000 will go to Tampa General Hospitals burn center. Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to all the sponsors and committee members. TECO Energy held its shareholders meeting April 29. Shareholders expressed concern over the companys continuing financial problems, which led to dividend cuts and lost stock value. Senior management was criticized for ill-fated decisions to invest in wholesale power. TECO CEO Robert Fagan focused his remarks on cutting company debt, maintaining dividends, increasing earnings and concentrating on core businesses. Negotiations with WEDU are finished, and negotiations will soon begin with Indian Town Telephone, TAW, and PRECO. Organizing campaigns have started with employees from Citrus World, the City of Leesburg, and Lakeland Electric. Doug Bowden, P.S. Lifetime Service Award
