L.U. 490 (i&mt), DOVER, NHMobilizing for the 2004 presidential election in the "battle ground" state of New Hampshire, the AFL-CIO, led by the Building Trades, walked through the streets of Manchester on June 12 to sign people up for "Working America." This community affiliate of the AFL-CIO allows people who do not have union representation at work a voice through the AFL-CIO.

Local 490 led the charge with the largest group of union volunteers. Together with over 350 members of various unions, we went door to door and in a four-hour frenzy signed up over 1,600 members for "Working America." Local 490 thanks all volunteers, especially IBEW members from Locals 103, 104, 1505, 1837 and 2320.

June 12 was just the beginning of our campaign. Every Monday night the Building Trades of New Hampshire will knock on union members doors to get out the vote for John Kerry and John Edwards. We invite all union members to join in the fight to turn this nation around.

Our full-time Organizer Tony Pecce as of July 27 has signed another electrical contractor, DRB Electric. A long-time Local 490 member, Tony apprenticed through the NJATC. Such organizing success shows what aptitude, knowledge and skill can accomplish.
