October 2004 IBEW Journal Past Months Busy
L.U. 120 (c,i&o), LONDON, ON, CANADALocal 120 has been busy in recent months with mostly "shut down" work at various plants. As a result we were able to employ travelers from other jurisdictions in the province. But, alas, all good things come to an end, and again we find ourselves with members unemployed. The Local 120 election of officers was held in June and we elected a full slate of officers, new and old. Bro. John Jackson was elected business manager/financial secretary, and our Executive Board members have pledged to organize and recover our lost share of the market we once held. We also thank former Executive Board members for their dedication and service to Local 120 for the past three years. In May the local held a banquet, which was very well attended. Bro. Joe OBrien, our former business manager, is pictured in the accompanying photo with some of the 50+ year retired members who received service pins at the banquet. Bro. OBrien now joins the retirees ranks after 48 years of membership and nine years of faithful service as business manager. Local 120 members wish Joe and his wife, Betty, all the best for a long and happy retirement. Ian McCool, P.S. Vote Pro-Labor L.U. 124 (ees,em,i,mar, rts,se&spa), KANSAS CITY, MOThe membership of Local 124 has focused all its attention on the upcoming national election. Our phone banks are active most every night, and Local 124 members have been walking the pavement talking to other union members for the Mobilization 2004 Campaign. It has been an experience to say the least. Thirty percent of all union households voted Republican in the last presidential election, and almost as many did not even vote. Did the people who voted Republican get what they wanted or expected? Do the non-voting people still think their vote does not count? Its time to wake up and smell the flowersthe bushes stink! Talk to your brothers, sisters, parents, children, neighbors and anyone on the street. Voter education, information, and registration are what this mobilization program is about. Its time for a change. Let us put middle-class America back to work at American jobs on American soil. Get out and vote pro-labor in November. Frank Mathews Jr., P.S. Union Tool: The Vote
L.U. 134 (catv,em,govt,i,mt,rtb, rts, spa&t), CHICAGO, ILThe work picture remains slow in our jurisdiction with a limited number of new job starts on the immediate horizon. Congratulations to Local 134 Special Asst. Jim Fliris on his retirement after 46 years with Local 134. Best of luck, Jim! In the accompanying photo, Local 134 members with the City of Chicago/Electric Wiring & Communications division are shown at the Ashland St. Bridge renovation jobsite, where they are installing new power, control and safety interlock systems in the aging 60 year-old structure. Local 134s softball team finished in third place in the Chicago Building Trade Councils "Dads Against Diabetes" softball tournament. Thanks to all our members who participated in the charity fundraiser. As election time nears, brothers and sisters, please remember to use the most effective tool in our tool bagthe right to vote. We must inform our family members and our co-workers of the need to register to vote and elect candidates who support union labor. Our future and the future of our children will depend on the choices we make at the polls. Mike Nugent, P.S. Apprenticeship Graduation

L.U. 150 (es,i,rts&spa), WAUKEGAN, ILThanks to our members for attending the locals annual golf outing at Nippersink golf course. David E. Barger and Chris Certa won "closest to the pin" honors and Bob Bodeman took the longest drive. Steve Crutchfield won the outing for his second consecutive year. Thanks to Bus. Rep. Kurt Anderson and all our sponsors for the generous donations and contributions that made the event possible. The annual picnic at Lakemoore Forest Preserve was a huge success thanks to Bro. Dave Baker, Local 150 "Sparks" and our entire staff of business agents and countless volunteers and family members. You can still register to vote at the hall. Check with Bus. Agent Michael Sodaro for any upcoming phone banks and lit drops for our regional and national candidates. In this election year, labor needs a strong unified union vote to preserve our way of life and maintain our families standard of living in this unsure economic climate. Dont just votebe heard.
