Returning Veterans Find Careers in Electrical Trades

Even in these tough economic times, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association continues to tap into the training, commitment and discipline that veterans bring back, with apprenticeship opportunities and work in the construction industry.

New Portland, Ore., Local 48 member Joe Dittrich, who served as a member of the Army’s 101st Airborne unit in Iraq, described how important the apprenticeship is to him and his family to in a recent article about the local’s training program.

 “I feel like it’s a blessing I got in here … My friends and family keep telling me how lucky I am to be learning the trades, particularly as new horizons are being explored in alternative energy sources,” he told the Gresham Outlook, a Portland-area newspaper.
