Bro. Ordiway Mourned

L.U. 83 (u), BINGHAMTON, NYWe are saddened to report the passing of Bro. Les Ordiway. Bro. Ordiway passed away April 18, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic accident at work. Les had been an IBEW union member for 23 years. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Bro. Ordiways family.

Following is an excerpt from a poem, written by Sister Jenny Morey:

Farewell To Our Friend

With sadness we say farewell to our friend
We werent prepared for your life to end.
When loved ones depart from us here on earth
We look back and realize what they were truly worth.
Most of us never told you how much we cared.
Now we exchange memories we all have shared.
With sadness we say our fond good byes
We remember our friend with those sparkling blue eyes.
We miss youyet we know where you are.
And when we pray upon your star
We ask dear Lord to please bless
Our very dear friend we called Les.

Officers Elected

L.U. 89 (catv,em,lctt,o&t), SEATTLE, WALocal 89 has experienced the same decline in membership as some other locals. In the past two years we lost 416 Telecommunications members and 59 Outside Construction members. Our work in manufacturing has also been down.

The Local 89 election of officers was held June 18. Incumbent officers re-elected were: Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Raymond Egelhoff, Pres. Matthew Carroll and Vice Pres. Douglas Witt. Also re-elected were: William Power, Outside Construction Executive Board; Chester Dennis, CenturyTel Executive Board; and William Yeazel, Frontier/Citizens Executive Board. We also extend a warm welcome to the following members elected as new officers: Rec. Sec. Shelley Hines, Treas. Connie Bueler; and Richard Murray, Verizon Executive Board.

Congratulations and best wishes to Laura Simmons on her retirement from Verizon. Sister Simmons dedicated many years to our local as treasurer. We also thank Steve Normand for his many years of service as an Executive Board member.

Will Power, Outside Construction, has accepted an apprentice power lineman position. Congratulations, Will. You will be missed.

Bus. Rep. Fred Denham retired in August. We thank Bro. Denham for his years of service and will miss him. Best of luck, Fred.

Raymond Egelhoff, B.M./F.S.

Local 95 is saddened by the recent loss of Bro. Gale Ludiker. Bro. Ludiker lost his fight against cancer on July 22, 2004, at the age of 60. Bro. Ludiker served our local well and in earlier years held an elected local union position. A 36-year IBEW member, Bro. Ludiker always had the local union at heart.

Local 95 is proud of our recent apprentice graduates, who achieved journeyman wireman status on May 27, 2004. Congratulations to: Casey Clanton, Gregg Cupp, Jared Cupp, Doug Eaves, Brian Graves, Spencer Long, John Lundien, Mark Woody and Chris Johnson. Bros. Casey Clanton and John Lundien were presented "meters" during graduation for perfect attendance throughout the entire apprenticeship program.

Work is still slow; hope is in the future. Remember to Vote!

Opportunity to Organize

L.U. 99 (govt&i), PROVIDENCE, RIWork continues to be slow in the area; we anticipate a few decent projects coming up. As always, the bitterness of unemployment opens up the sweet opportunity for members to help organize and also for our contractors to aggressively target the different types of work we have given away over the years.

November elections are upon us. Learn the issues and vote for what is best for you and your family. Remember, if you choose not to vote then you let someone else decide your future. How sad is that?

Shortly after the election will be the time for another important vote. As you shop for your holiday gifts, make sure you check for the "Made in USA" label.
