Tony McCafferty Retiring

Local 380 recently honored 55-year members John W. Bolger Jr. (left) and Ira W. Robbins (right). In the middle are 50-year members Fred C. Schempp and George W. Tupper.

L.U. 380 (ei,es,i&it), NORRISTOWN, PAAfter many years of dedicated service to Local 380 and a very distinguished career in the IBEW, Bus. Mgr. Tony McCafferty has decided to retire.

Tony started his apprenticeship in 1960. Soon after completing his apprenticeship, he was appointed to the Montgomery County AFL-CIO council. In 1971 Tony was appointed to our Executive Board of Local 380 and soon became the unions Rec. Sec. The next milestone for Tony was in 1985 when he was elected Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. In 1991 at the 34th IBEW International Convention, Tony was elected to the International Executive Council, first district, where he also serves as Sec. Tony also serves on many Local 380 committees including being a trustee of the health, welfare and annuity fund; secretary of the joint apprenticeship committee, and the labor management committee. He also served as president and secretary of the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Managers Association.

With such a long list of accomplishments, Local 380 and all of the IBEW will surely miss all the hard work and dedication shown throughout his career. On behalf of the local, I would like to say thanks and wish Tony all the best in his retirement.

Recently four retired Local 380 members were honored. Bros. Fred Schempp and George Tupper received 50-year pins and John Bolger and Ira Robbins received their 55-year pins. John Bolger served as treasurer from 1965 to 1990. Ira Robbins served as president and health and welfare director. All four members took the opportunity to say a few words about the history of the local and what it meant to be a member of Local 380.

L.U. 387 (em,lctt&u), PHOENIX, AZCongratulations to retired Bros. Robert "Bob" Thompson and Paul Morris, who recently received their 55-year service award and pins.

U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt recently came to our office building for a short visit.

Some members have been busy installing lights at new ballparks around the valley that are sponsored by the Diamondbacks baseball team. On Saturday, April 12 we completed the lighting at the Tony Womack Field. A big thank you to our members who volunteered their time.

Navopache Electric Co-Op, located in Pinetop, AZ, ratified a three-year contract, with wage increases of 3.5 percent each of the first two years and 3.25 percent the third year.

A recent agreement with Arizona Public Service Company and Local 387 will bring all tree trimming back through the union.

At the Four Corners power plant in Fruitland, NM, the Unit 3 overhaul has been completed. The main project was a $5.5 million generative rewind.

We thank our brothers and sisters for donating $417,843 in 2002 and $453,996 in 2003 to the United Way Campaign. Many people in our community will benefit from your generosity. And congratulations to our members at Home Builders West and Williams Construction for scoring 98 percent for excellence in design and construction.

LMCC Kick-Off

Local 405 Business Expo Booth sports our new LMCC logo.

L. U. 405 (em,i,rtb,&spa), CEDAR RAPIDS, IAThis is kick-off year for the new Iowa City LMCC (Labor Management Cooperation Committee). Our Iowa City market share has been lacking for too long, and Local 405 members intend to make changes.

In January, the LMCC began placing print advertising in the Iowa City Press-Citizen and the Iowa City Gazette. Each local newspaper is running five quarter-page advertisements each month, obtained from the "Ads on Demand" program (www.thequalityconnection.org) administrated by the National LMCC. The newspaper adjusts the ads to meet our local needs.

We are also working closely with the Chamber of Commerce and have ads in Chamber publications. We took part in the annual Business Expo at Carver Hawkeye Arena where we had a forum that allowed us to speak with numerous community business people. Our booth sported our new LMCC logo, the names of our electrical contractors, handouts, residential +5 information, and even a Jacobs Ladder.

Local 405 members and officers are proud of Paul Fisher, Stan Ambrose, Bill Brown, Vlady Kazberouk, and Jonathon Formanek now serving our country. We pray that they will soon be home safe with their families and friends.

Centennial Coming Up

Robert Mathews of Local 415 recently received his 50-year pin.

L.U. 415 (c,govt,i&u), CHEYENNE, WYThis article is dedicated to all the brave men and women who recently sacrificed so much fighting for our country. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and wish speedy and full recovery to those who suffered injuries. Whether we agree or disagree with the politics of the war, we all should stand behind our fighting men and women.

The 100th anniversary on September 13, 2003, should be a grand celebration. Many dignitaries have promised to come and help us celebrate. We hope to incorporate the apprenticeship completion ceremony to make it a night these young journeymen will never forget.

Congratulations to Robert Mathews who recently received his fifty-year pin. We hope to share old stories with you at the 100th year celebration.

Work is still very slow, and things look a little bleak. I hope work improves, and we can get back to doing for our families as they deserve.

Plan to attend the annual picnic August 9. Contact the hall for time and location. If you would like to know more about Local 415 check us out on the web at: http:ilocal415.tripod.com.
