L.U. 163 (ees&i), WILKES-BARRE, PAThe local recently participated in the annual St. Patricks Day Parade in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Members and their families walked behind the float constructed by the apprentices and journeymen of Local 163. The local would like to thank everyone for their hard work on the construction of the float and to all that participated in this event. The local would also like to thank Brother Joe OToole for his hard work in organizing this event and making it a great success. All who attended had a great time. Peter Bacumpas, P.S.
L.U. 164 (c,i,o&t), Jersey City, NJLocal 164s electrical division members have ratified a landmark contract resulting in a 7.8% increase per year during the next four years, for a total of 31.3%, announced Richard Dressel, business manager. The four-year agreement includes an increase of $4 per hour each year, for a total of $16 per hour for the life of the contract. The contract covers the more than 2,200 members of our electrical division. "This groundbreaking contract represents a commitment to securing the best wages for the men and women of IBEW Local 164," said Bro. Dressel, who spearheaded contract talks with Pres. John Milazzo and the Executive Board. The new contract sets aside contribution increases of 2 percent to the Health and Welfare Fund, a .25 percent to the Committee on Political Education Fund and 1 percent over two years to the Apprenticeship Training Fund. "Now we will be able to be more supportive of contractor management by providing a work force with the skill, attitude and knowledge necessary to get the job done on time and under budget," Bro. Dressel said. IBEW Local 164 provides all of its members with a professional education at state-of-the-art training facilities in Paramus and Toms River, NJ. "As a nationally recognized leader in the field of training, the 1 percent increase for apprenticeship training will allow us to return to our eight-hour day school where apprentices are paid full wages and benefits to attend school," said Pres. Milazzo, who is also training director. Local 164s is the only program in the country that compensates apprentices full wages and benefits to attend school. David Millazzo, Pres.
LU 177 (bo,ees,i,mo&pet), JACKSONVILLE, FLOn March 10, 2003, Local 177 settled an NLRB case against Power Design, Inc, a non-union contractor. This company refused to hire and also terminated employees based on union membership and or affiliation. Charges were filed with the NLRB and a settlement was reached. The company agreed to a settlement of $30,000 which was divided between five Local 177 members. Good Job Guys! We also won in our recent City Elections. On April 15, 2003, elections were held for 22 City Offices and one State Representative seat. Of Our 22 endorsed candidates, nine won their elections and seven made it into a run-off election. One of our own retired members, Ronnie Higginbotham reached the May 13th run-off before he was defeated. We are very proud of our endorsed candidate and retired member Ronnie Higginbotham and wish him all the best. We are quickly approaching our 2004 national elections. This will be yet another very important election for the working people of the United States. Now is the time to begin gathering volunteers, to make phone calls, distribute campaign literature, and wave signs. Lets remember, the early bird gets the worm. Lisa M. Stuart, P.S.
L.U. 191 (c,i,mo,rtb&st), EVERETT, WAThe new Tulalip Casino was scheduled to open on time in June, thanks to the hard work of our members and all the union workers. The Tulalip Indian tribe signed an agreement to wire all projects on their site union. With much work planned for the future we are hopeful to employ many of our members. The construction cost is currently around $200 million. Congratulations to newly appointed Secretary/Treasurer Jim Groves who has been active in the local and will do a great job. The work picture in Local 191 is still very slow. The local anticipates a very busy 2004 and 2005. The clean fuel bill should bring much needed work to our refineries and put many members to work. Local 191 mourns the death of two longtime members, Bros. Travis Powell and Ray "Rowdy" McDowell. Both were strong union members and will be missed. Our condolences to their families and friends. Travis Patterson, V.P./P.S.
