RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 105, HAMILTON, ON, CANADAAs we begin a new year, our membership is growing in size and participation. There is always a large turnout for meetings and regular activities. The Christmas dinner and dance was very well attended and was a great success. We are looking forward to a busy year, with plans for a getaway to Niagara Falls, a Valentine dance and dinner theater in March as well as regular euchre and bowling. In September elections, Gary Turner was returned as president and John MacNeil as vice president. The Executive Board includes Lloyd Hicks, Jim Fernihough, Al Gill, Dorothy Elliott and Dale Bochek. Betty Gill is treasurer and Helen Lagan is secretary. John Lagan, P.S.

Our corned beef dinner was a success once the weather was with us. Pres. George Menton invites all the new retirees to our club. Results of our Exec. Board elections will be in our next issue. We are looking for new ideas of what the club wants and would like to hear from retirees in Florida, Arizona or wherever you arebut dont send all of the ideas in at once. Drop a line to our newsletter editor, Robert Smedberg. His address is in our roster book. I would like to comment on the article by International Secretary-Treasurer Jeremiah J. OConnor. If the Democrats had spoken up as well as he did in the last election, we would have a new president and we wouldnt be in the mess we are in nowno jobs, layoffs, stock market down, prescription drugs on the rise and war on the horizon. I cant wait for 2004we need a change. Enough is enough. I have to end because my pressure is going up, so take care and stay healthy. Dick Bronars, P.S.

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 639, SAN LUIS OBISPO, CAThe San Luis Obispo Local 639 Retirees Club may be small in number, but it does big things for kids! In December 2002, the retirees, with assistance from active members and spouses, hosted the 17th Annual Head Start Christmas party. The club hired school buses to bring more than 150 students to the gathering, where they were greeted by Santas helper, also known as Local 639 member Johnny Wyatt, who arrived on his Harley to the delight of all the children. The children and their teachers were treated to a breakfast cooked by local members from donated food items. A clown provided entertainment, as did a visit with Santa, who bestowed gifts of toys. "Its worth it to see their eyes light up," one retiree was overheard saying, "Thats why we do it." WILLIAM PAPICH, P.S.
