L.U. 306 (i), AKRON, OHBus. Mgr. David Moran announced ratification of a new 3-1/2 year Residential Agreement for our members. Thanks to all who worked to achieve this goal. Training Dir. Paul Zimmerman extends congratulations to all members who utilized the Fall Journeyman Training Program. The JATC sponsored incentive plan provided classes in OSHA, Fire Alarm, Grounding, Services, Health Care Facilities and several vendor nights. Our best wishes go to Bro. Jamie Schmidt and family. Bro. Schmidt, a U.S. Army Reservist, was called to active duty for an unspecified period of time. Hats off to our Social Committee for another outstanding job with the Annual Christmas Party. The personal appearance of Santa Claus delighted everyone in attendance. We mourn the loss of retired Bros. Myron Papp and Virgil Rutan. We also extend our condolences to the family of Bro. Jerry Sweitzer, age 56, too soon gone from our midst. Robert Sallaz, V.P./P.S.
L.U. 317 (i,o,rts,t&u), HUNTINGTON, WVWork is still holding steady, but is expected to taper off in early 2003. The Local 317 Softball team completed its first fall season with a thirdplace finish in the tournament, and we hope there will be more. Thanks to Coach Mike Mayes for putting the team together. The team was sponsored by Local 317 and the IBEW Local 317 Federal Credit Union. The Credit Union is growing strong. There is a new scholarship program that will give away two $500 scholarships per year. These will be presented at the annual meeting in April. Home equity loans are also now available. Ideal Industries donated a package of test instruments to each program that sent an outstanding apprentice to the National Training Institute in 2002. Congratulations to Joe Kilgore, who attended as local 317s representative. The instruments are a great addition to our new training facility. Thanks to Ideal Industries for donating $250,000 worth of test instruments nationwide. Also attending were JATC Dir. Milton Kinder, JATC member Chuck Taylor, Instructor Kevin Fooce and Instructor Brian Preston. First Aid and CPR classes have started. If you are interested in taking a class, call the hall. Ted Kinder, P.S. Democrats Rule in California Work is still slow, and we appreciate those locals who are helping our traveling members. It is with sorrow that I report the passing of retired Bro. Harry Bain. Bro. Bain was an excellent electrician, and served as Local 340 Executive Board member for many years. In 1981 he and Bro. Lud Larson launched the first IBEW/NECA Operation Christmas Basket Raffle, and to date this raffle has donated over $128,000 to various childrens charities. Bro. Bain is the father of active member Bro. Greg Bain and grandfather of Bro. Michael Bain. It is also with sorrow that I report the passing of 42-year member Bro. Les Kinyon (brother of Doug Kinyon). Rest in peace, brothers. A. C. Steelman, B.M./F.S. Ongoing COMET Classes Our Habitat for Humanity project is coming right along. Retiree John "Speedy" ONeill (and his band of retirees), John Brown and our local journeymen have done a good job on the two houses. We are still conducting COMET classes, and Bros. Simpson and Howanitz will be instructing the classes. We have lots of jobs on the drawing board, but not many hiring yet. We hope work will pick up after the first of the year. Happy New Year to all. Attend your local union meetings. Frank Albury, P.S.
