1. OSHA/Ergonomics The Senate voted to rescind the
OSHA ergonomics rule issued by the Labor Department. President Bush
signed the bill wiping out the rules on March 20, 2001. The IBEW position

5. Patients Rights/Final Passage Bill would provide
patients with new federal protections, such as access to specialty
and emergency room care, and legal recourse to appeal a health plans
decision on coverage and treatment. IBEW position on the vote June
29, 2001: SUPPORT. (Yes=Right, No=Wrong). |
8. Fast-Track This bill would restore the presidents
ability to send trade agreements to Congress for "fast-track"
approval without amendments and affect other related programs. The
Senate passed this bill by a vote of 66 to 30. The IBEW position on

2. Paycheck Deception/Dues This vote would kill an
amendment to require labor unions to get written authorization from
each member and non-member before their dues could be spent on any
communication connected with a political or legislative issue. The

6. Railroad Retirement and Survivors Improvement Act The
Senate passed Railroad Retirement reform by a vote of 90-9, to modernize
the financing of the railroad retirement system and to provide enhanced
benefits to employees and beneficiaries. IBEW position on the vote

9. Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Site Approval The
Senate passed an IBEW supported motion to approve a site at Yucca
Mountain, Nevada, as a repository for the nations spent nuclear waste.

3. Paycheck Deception/Shareholders The vote would kill
an amendment to require corporations and unions that spend money on
political activities to provide disclosure of funds spent to corporations
shareholders or labor organizations members. It was defeated by a
60-40 vote. The IBEW position on the vote March 22, 2001: SUPPORT

7. Economic Stimulus/UI Benefits Would have required
states to provide unemployment benefits to workers, and provide a
temporary supplement to unemployment insurance. The amendment fell
short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a procedural hurdle. IBEW

10. Accounting Industry Overhaul Vote to kill an
amendment attacking organized labor. It would have mandated burdensome
new requirements for labor organizations. It was defeated by a vote
