Wage Penalty Granted
L.U. 100 (c,em,i,o,rts&st), FRESNO, CABus. Mgr. Larry Kellerhals reports summer work has slowed, but a lot of work is being bid, and work through the winter looks good. Local 100 Compliance Officer Gary Kageyama initiated a complaint with the State of California Department of Industrial Relations that resulted in a second civil wage penalty assessment in the amount of $58,741 against Construction Design Unlimited of Fresno. The first assessment was $52,000. Frucon, which built the Henrietta Peaker Plant in Lemoore, was very happy with a job well done by Local 100 members. Congratulations. At this writing, we are awaiting the authority to add picket duty through a Bylaw change. All members must be involved to protect our jobs, with penalties for those who do not participate. Twelve Journeymen training classes were offered in 2002, with more classes in the works. JATC Training Coordinator Gregg Jordan reported more involvement is needed to keep classes scheduled. A four-hour steward class was held in September. Electrical certification testing is scheduled to begin October 2. There will be four different license classifications, and all must be certified by Jan. 1, 2005. M. A. Caglia, R.S. One Local, One Rate Congratulations to Craig Christiansen for having the highest five-year GPA and to James Pignatello, Shawn Sanders, Randy Wardlow, Lucrezia Azzolini, Don Halliday, Dom Mastrostefano, Wayne Smith, Bill Jaeger, Vincent Digiorgio, Jason Dinallo, Nicholas Porcaro and Val Zdanowicz for having the highest GPA in their individual classes. Since the incorporation of the Pennsylvania territories into our local, it has been our officers mission to establish a one local, one rate policy, and proudly, as of June 1, the entire Local 102 jurisdiction has been brought up to the same level. Our 2002 nominations were held and all incumbents were nominated and unopposed. Bus. Mgr. Pat DelleCava thanked the members for their vote of confidence. With the two-year Tosco Polypropylene job nearing its completion, we thank our traveling brothers and sisters for a job well done. Beach Electric employed almost 300 electricians, and nearly 80 percent were from out of state. We hope to see you on the next big one. Lee Couturier, P.S. Have a VoiceVote! At this writing, negotiations for SECO are upcoming, and the Proposal Committee is finishing its work. The Negotiations Committee was elected on August 2, with negotiations scheduled to begin on August 19. Our voter registration drive is in full swing. Thanks to everyone who ran for office. We also thank Bro. Joe Lubitz (candidate for business manager) for stating that now the election is over we need to be united and work to better our union. Busy Summer The new addition to the JATC, will be finished by the time school starts. Forty Local 124 volunteers collected $5,415 for Dads Day, Dollars Against Diabetes. Thanks, volunteers! Our Family Picnic in June attracted almost 800 members and their families. The general election is just around the corner, so get out and help register your members. THE KEY IS TO VOTE. Rich Eagan (communication journeyman) on the job or in the neighborhood be sure to give him a pat on the back for his heroics. He pulled a woman whose clothes and hair were on fire from a burning car and put the flames out with his hands. The state police said the women would have died if not for his quick action.
