House Panel Restores Workers’ Rights at the Defense DepartmentMay 9, 2007 In a victory for civil service employees at the Department of Defense, the House Armed Services readiness subcommittee voted in early May to restore collective bargaining rights and disciplinary appeal rights to Pentagon workers.Those rights were stripped in 2005 by Congress and were part of the proposed changed by the Bush Administration meant to curb the influence of government unions – including the IBEW – and weaken the ability of federal employees to bargain fairly.
