Happy New Year!

Local 595 members at the Stockton Arena, (L-R):
Brian McDonald, Tony Bertolucci, Mike Simmons
and Larry Nelson.

L.U. 595 (c,govt,i,o&st), DUBLIN, CALocal 595 members entered the new year with a generous IBEW spirit of giving. Record numbers of toys to Toys for Tots, food donations to the Alameda County food bank, and 28 units of blood were donated to the Red Cross in a one-day blood drive at the hall. Continuing efforts with Operation MOM brought a day of packing up 250 care packages, which were sent to men and women serving in Iraq. These packages contain everyday items such as socks and toothpaste and are a much-needed morale booster for those who receive them.

We are looking for a better work picture in 2005. The Stockton area has a downtown revitalization program, including a 10,000-seat sports arena and hotel complex that is currently being wired for cheers by Local 595 hands. The new arena will be home to the California Cougars, a previously Sacramento-based indoor soccer team, and the local baseball team, the Stockton Ports.

At our Old Timers Night, Bob Marquardt was honored for 65 years of IBEW membership. Born in 1919, Bob and his wife, Garnette, were given a standing ovation by hundreds of attendees. It was a memorable evening for everyone.

Local Lights New Sign

L.U. 725 (i,rts&spa), TERRE HAUTE, INWe were pleased to light our new local union sign in December. Not only does it serve as a beacon for IBEW members, but it also may arouse curiosity among consumers and customers alike.

The honorable governor and the Legislature from Illinois recently acted to raise the state minimum wage by $1. This is above the federal minimum wage. This effort was made possible in large part as a result of the participation of the Illinois AFL-CIO. Union labor does make a difference!

We extend condolences to all family members and victims of both the battles our troops are facing and of the tsunami.

Our union meetings are held the second Friday of each month at the local union hall at 7:30 p.m.

A.J. English, P.S.
