L.U. 153 (em,i,rtb, rts,se,spa&st), SOUTH BEND, INCongratulations to our 45 graduating apprentices from 2004. Their long, hard work is now paying off. A special congratulations to apprentice-of-the-year Steve Egyed, who was voted so by his peers. Steve not only performed well in the classroom but also showed great character in his leadership and solidarity. Dana Carothers received the academic achievement award, presented for scholastic excellence throughout the apprenticeship. Congratulations also to three journeymen who received their associate degrees: Gerald Britt, Ed Taff, and William Weaver. Way to go, guys! Mike Taff, P.S. L.U. 159 (i), MADISON, WIThe officers and members of Local 159 extend sincere wishes for a happy and healthy new year to all our brothers and sisters and their families. We hope this will be a better year of work for the IBEW. Local 159 had a tremendous number of volunteers who worked extremely hard in the 2004 presidential campaign. Despite the fact the results were not what we had hoped for, it is very encouraging to see that level of involvement from our members and their families. It was also a modest victory in the fact that we were one of the "blue states." Our efforts must and will continue. We continue to have moderate unemployment in all sectors, Inside, Residential and VDV, but we anticipate getting most of our members back to work, with some spotty work for Book II. Both our Residential and Inside agreements are open this year. We expect to have the usual battle on our hands to receive the wage and benefit package our members so justly deserve. Billy Harrelson, B.M. L.U. 191 (c,i,mo,rts&st), EVERETT, WALocal 191 would like to thank all our members who worked so hard during the holiday season to help those less fortunate than ourselves. In addition, extra congratulations to Bro. Mike McGhee and his wife, Shanee, for all their work on our fourth annual childrens Christmas party. Heres hoping the new year will see plenty of prosperity for those in our own local, and for our brothers and sisters throughout the IBEW Marcus Abarcus, P.S.
L.U. 193 (i,lctt,o,rts, spa&u), SPRINGFIELD, ILThis spring will bring the official opening of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in downtown Springfield. Local 193 is proud to be involved with this project, which will display countless Lincoln documents and artifacts and tell the story of the presidents life. Local 193 members from Mansfield Electric built the library, while the museum was awarded to Egizii Electric. The IBEW electricians on the job had the opportunity to call upon all their skills in many different areas due to the massive amounts of high tech equipment used in the project, and they rose to the challenge. The library/museum complex includes state-of-the-art holographic theatres, which will feature presentations with human/holograph interaction. The "Journeys" area leads visitors through Lincolns life chronologically and includes replicas of the presidents birthplace, the White House and Fords Theater. The library and museum have also created the need for a visitors center and a parking ramp, both of which are being built nearby. The entire Lincoln complex is a remarkable thing to see, and we hope you will keep Springfield in mind as a destination when you plan your summer vacation. Rick Shereda, P.S. L.U. 257 (em,i,rtb, rts, spa&t), JEFFERSON CITY, MOAs this is being written we are in contract negotiations. It is tough to negotiate in times like these when work is slow. We wish our negotiating committee the best and look forward to a mutually beneficial agreement with our contractors. We have approximately 100 members on Book I, but we are hopeful that we may get more work with good weather this spring. Congratulations to Gary Fischer on his retirement. We all wish him the best. Travis Hart, P.S
