Wisconsin Local Leaders Speak Out at Alliant Energy Shareholder Meeting

May 24, 2005

Errol Davis, CEO of Alliant Energy Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin may have been hoping for smooth sailing as he was presiding over his last annual shareholder meeting before his retirement.

Ray Turner, business manager of IBEW Local 949, wasn't about to give Davis a free ride into the sunset. Turner got up and said: "We want to know what you are going to do to change morale except for your retirement in July."

Shawn Reents, business manager of Madison IBEW Local 965, which represents workers at Wisconsin Power and Light, an Alliant subsidiary, was interviewed in the Wisconsin State Journal. He noted that Alliant's elimination of hundreds of technician, engineer and customer service jobs at the utility has been an obstacle to providing safe, affordable and reliable service for customers. To make matters worse, Alliant was asking for benefit cuts while, at the same time, increasing executive salaries.
