New Training Center

Local 816's Labor Day parade float won
an award for best theme.

L.U. 816 (i,o,spa,t&u), PADUCAH, KY-Organizing is alive and well in Local 816, thanks to Bus. Mgr. Gary Seay and Organizer David Waggoner.

Paducah has a successful Labor Day program and parade. Local 816 members always show their support with more than 100 members in attendance. Our local's float won the "Best Theme Award" for the 2003 parade. Thanks to the Labor Day Float Committee.

The JATC has a new training center. With 9,000 square feet of training space, we are rapidly expanding our hands-on training capabilities, which will enable us to turn out the best craftsmen in our industry. Apprentices are our life's blood.

On Oct. 4 we honored our retirees with a luncheon and pin presentation. Approximately 80 retirees attended. Forty retirees received 50-year pins, and 11 retired members received 55-year pins. We owe immense gratitude to our retirees.

Our work picture is not the best at present, but we hope for a better future.

Bro. Intschert Retires

L.U. 910 (i&rts), WATERTOWN, NY-Our members marched proudly in the Massena Solidarity Labor Day Parade. Local 910 retirees rode in a wagon drawn by a team of horses.

Congratulations to Local 910 members Nikolay Johnson, Shawn Jenkins and Gary Hall, who completed upgrade training in 2003 to become inside journeyman wiremen.

Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. George Intschert is retiring the end of February 2004. Bro Intschert has been a Local 910 member since 1970 and has served as business manager since 1984.

Treasurer/Organizer Dennis Affinati was appointed by the Executive Board to fill the unexpired term of business manager/financial secretary. He has been a member of our local for about 20 years and has been our treasurer for more than eight years. Dennis will start his new job March 1, 2004.

Kudos to Charles Algood

welcomes U.S. Rep.
Jim Davis (D-Florida),
who attended a recent
local union general
meeting.

L.U. 915 (i&mt), TAMPA, FL-Bro. Charles W. Algood has for some time been submitting proposed changes to the National Electrical Code. Recently his suggestions in regard to Item 250.32 (B) (2) on calculating neutral conductor sizes was overwhelmingly accepted in concept by the full panel of 13 members of the Review Board. Algood's suggested changes will be in the next revised National Electrical Code. Keep up the good work, Chuck.

Our inside agreement has been settled, pending International approval. The one-year agreement will provide wage increases of 2 percent, plus a 25-cent an hour incentive pay for those who participate in a local JATC continuing education program. Other changes were to improve the Bonding language and make the agreement more uniform to all contractors.

We recently lost one of our former business agents, Bro. Henry C. Padgett. Henry was an assistant under former Bus. Mgr. Jerry Cain for about 12 years and handled mostly Polk County and adjacent areas. Henry represented Local 916 even after leaving his job as an agent, by directing work to union contractors through his contacts and influence in the phosphate industry.
