November Raffle

At Local 70's Nov. 25 union meeting, hams and
turkeys were raffled.

L.U. 70 (lctt&o), WASHINGTON, DC-At our Nov. meeting, hams and turkeys were raffled for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our members recited the Pledge of Allegiance at this meeting and will continue to do so. We thank the retired members and everyone who attended.

The Overhead and Underground work is still strong. Our Line Clearance Tree Trimming work with Asplundh Tree Expert has been at normal. Our local is discussing how we can enable our contractors to keep up with the supply and demand of skilled and qualified workers. We will keep the membership updated on any changes. Local 70 would like to recognize Alice Collins and Kathy Collins for the fine job they do as our office secretaries. Commendations also go out to Bros. Fred Cole, Robert Terry and Mike Fowler on their organizing efforts; and to Ernie Miller, who has worked on our Asplundh campaign.

Our condolences to the families and friends of Bros. Max Ruddle and Robert Adkins, who passed away.

Holiday Greetings

L.U. 77 (lctt,mt,o,t&u), SEATTLE, WA-Our Local 77 Unit Conference was held in Olympia, WA, last year. We learned our fellow union members (Teamsters Local 66) at Darigold in Seattle have been locked out since August 2003, so please help support their cause by NOT buying any Darigold products.

We heard about progress made in the PERS arena. Ron Roy (Chelan PUD) and his committee have been instrumental in pushing these issues forward and are gaining momentum.

Our transmission work continues although, with shorter daylight hours, the pace has been reduced. More jobs are opening up. Before coming, please contact our Construction Dispatch at (206) 323-05850 or check our Web site: www.ibew77.com.

The "two-man" rule has been codified into WAC 296.45.325.

Please continue to send e-mails re overtime rules and the energy bills proposed by President Bush. Neither of these issues are in the IBEW's interest. You can find the addresses at www.ibew.org or www.unionvoice.org.

L.U. 86, (ees,em,es,i,rts&spa), ROCHESTER, NY-The Entertainment Committee has been at the union hall wrapping presents for Santa to pass out at the Kiddies Christmas Party. This annual event would not be possible without Bro. Brian Johnson, his wife, Leia, and all the volunteers, including many apprentices who help out each year. The smiling faces of members' children and grandchildren makes the effort worthwhile.

The Pin Party Committee is in the final stages of planning for our annual dinner dance/pin party. It will be held at the Riverside Convention Center in downtown Rochester on Sat., March 16. We will present service pins to members whose initiation date year ends in 3, 4, 8, and 9.

The PAC Committee is formulating plans for the 2004 elections. Registering and getting members out to vote will be high on their agenda.

'Labor to Labor' Walks

L.U. 94 (lctt, nst&u), CRANBURY, NJ-The Local's annual retirees dinner was held Nov. 8, 2003. After welcoming the guests, Bus. Mgr./Pres. John Gerrity turned the microphone over to Bus. Agent Tom McGuire, who introduced the retirees in attendance. They were: Mary Best, Donald Butler, Charles Dzuba, Richard Edwards, Raoul Felker, Howard Good, James Gregory, Tyrone Harvin, Thomas Hendricks, Tom Leisner, Zoltan Leranth, Alice Pasterchick, Milton Pippin, Robert Poore, Charles Rosina, John Sanson, Peter Sardone, Vincent Torre and Charles Woods. Congratulations and best wishes to all our retirees.

Pres. Gerrity extends a thank-you to everyone who helped during the past election period with the Labor-to-Labor walks.

Three of our brothers volunteered to help needy children in the area by collecting money throughout the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Stations. In less than three days they collected more than $1,300. Congratulations to Bros. James Brown, Ed Niblock and Jay Springfield for the fine contribution to the community.

Negotiations Update

Local 97 gas mechanics
utilize the "live insertion
gland unit" to replace an
old gas main.

L.U. 97 (u), SYRACUSE, NY-NRG negotiations have been completed. Negotiations were difficult, as NRG had filed for debt reorganization, but a four-year agreement was reached and ratified by a significant majority.

There is finally a short break in negotiations, which seem to be endless, but the NYISO negotiations will begin in March, Niagara Mohawk in September and PSEG in October.

Many members, especially at Niagara Mohawk, have filed final retirement papers. Filling those vacancies will be a major concern and Local 97 will be fighting hard for every job. We believe that management has cut bargaining unit jobs too much, with a major negative effect on the bargaining unit employees who remain working. We need everyone's help with this battle, so please come to the meetings.

Niagara Mohawk gas crews are using state-of-the art technology to repair and replace gas services as well as mains (see photo). A device is inserted into the old service along with new pipe, and a compound is injected through the device, which creates an airtight seal, eliminating a lot of digging and trenching.
