Mgr. Jim Weldon told the graduates they were topping out of the best JATC program in the country and said, "Dont let any journeyman-wireman that you work with call you a junior journeyman. You are a full-fledged journeyman. Go represent your local accordingly!" Beverly Curphey, P.S. L.U. 794 (rr), CHICAGO, ILThe IBEW Railroad Coordinating Council was charged with the task of transforming the local unions that represent railroads. Many changes were made and some impact our local. First we would like to welcome into Local 794 the Amtrak brothers & sisters who are employed in the Signal Department at Chicago Union Station and previously in Chicago Local 134. As some board our train some must get off. It is with great sadness that Local 794 must see some members leave. The Norfolk Southern brothers will be transferred to Local 513, Decatur, IL. The electricians who currently work for Metra Electric Lines (part of the Chicago rail commuter system) are leaving us to become members of Local 134. Many of these members have benefited the IBEW with their hard work and diligence. Some who have served Local 794 and the affiliated System Councils are: Gerry Claus, Mike Chavez, Bob Papa, Mike Schimanski, Bob Schladrauff, Clyde Taksas, Erich Wolf, and so many others that I could probably fill this magazine. Local 794 wishes these brothers and sisters a prosperous railroad career. A.W. Buitenwerf, Pres.

L.U. 1116 (em,lctt&u), TUCSON, AZLike our monsoon weather during the summer months, our local is thundering with activity. Pres. Jim Corbin, Vice Pres. Frank Grijalva and SGS Unit-Chmn. Randy Crider visited Washington, DC, to discuss issues with our congressional representatives. We are still in negotiations with SES for the 2003 meter reader wages and in negotiations for a new SES supplemental workforce agreement. As has been the case in all our negotiations, health/welfare costs are a major topic. Our organizing efforts have been steadily on the rise, with 45 new members since February. We are happy to sign up so many, especially with so many of us reaching retirement. We are looking to younger members to become more active and carry on with the benefits that past members worked to maintain. On a sad note, Local 1116 extends our deepest condolences to the families of Bro. Ruben Ortiz and retired Bro. Fred Johnson, who passed on. To our office staff, Sisters Elvida Acosta and Lydia Orchard, your day-to-day duties are truly appreciated and I would like to say thank you. R.Cavaletto, P.S. |
