L.U. 47 (lctt,mo,u&uow), DIAMOND BAR, CAThe ballots for the 2002 election of Local 47 officers have been counted and the winners are Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Pat Lavin, Pres. Ron Delgado, Vice Pres. Jeff Flory, Rec. Sec. Dillie Farris and Treas. Roger Heldoorn. The Executive Board members are Monica Watson, Dwight Morgan, Pat Powell, Ernie Lopez, Ken Jackson, Mark Long and Hipolito Tavarez. The local has been successful in organizing two new groups. We gained seven members in Anaheim, when an agreement was reached with the City and the Utility Inspectors to add the inspectors to our existing unit. We also added 13 employees at the newly constructed 520MW power plant in Blyth operated by FPL. Two contracts have recently been ratified. The agreement with Asplundh Tree Expert included general wage increases, step reductions per classification, and increased the companys contribution to medical insurance by up to 25 percent. We also ratified a four-year agreement at Edison Field that increased wages and benefits an average of 4.25 percent per year. Bro. Brian Norwood, a lineman at Anaheim, was seriously injured when he contacted an energized 12kV line. While attending the Ninth District Progress Meeting in Anaheim, Int. Pres. Ed Hill visited Bro. Brian and his family at the U.C. Irvine Medical Center. Stan Stosel, P.S. We Have a Choice
L.U. 51 (catv, lctt,o,rtb,t&u), SPRINGFIELD, ILWe hear about the terrorists and what the president is doing to help keep America strong. We all support his efforts. Let us flip the page and take a look at what is affecting our daily life. The stock market is in the toilet, plants are closing, and we have a gloomy work picture and a plan to dismantle unions with one presidential order after another. What is the topic of conversation when our members report to work? Is the topic a political candidates position on guns? I have a gun and do not want my rights as a gun owner infringed upon. I am also a union member who wants to ensure that there will be a tomorrow for our children. We have a choice. Please make sure you and your family are registered to vote and vote in the November elections. The work picture for our line construction (transmission and distribution) is slow. Tree trimming remains stable, and telephone is dead in the water. Dominic Rivara, B.M. Officers Elected
L.U. 53 (lctt,o,rts&u), KANSAS CITY, MOAt this writing, construction work in the area is slow. All of our members are working, but there are no calls for linemen at this time. Local 53 recently held its election of officers. Congratulations and best of luck to Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Lyle K. Querry, Pres. Steve White, Vice Pres. Duane Pearce, Rec. Sec. John Wilson, Treas. John Morasch and Executive Board members David Adkins, Rex Long, Brett Stone, Tom Westfall and Eric Younghans. Special thanks to outgoing officers Jim Gaylord and Chuck Miers for their contributions to this local. Thanks also to election judge Larry Curry and tellers Jim Morton and Laura Weigel. Bruce VanCompernolle, P.S. Its Up to Us The WCMH Photographer Unit ratified a new four-year agreement, and Charles Busby, Rick Reitzel and Bryan Stage should be applauded for their effort. Brothers and Sisters, WAKE UP! We have allowed the politicians and corporate America to sell our country. Our manufacturing base has eroded to virtually nothing. When will we finally say, enough is enough? The American workforce needs labor unions more today then ever in our past. We take a noncommittal attitude, waiting for the other guy to do something. My friends, there are no other guys. It is up to each of us to stand up and do our part. Our deepest sympathy to the families of Bros. Wayne Lane, Sam Dunlap and George White, who passed away. Wally Sickles, B.M.
