Brothers and sisters at AT&T,
I want to commend the members and leaders of bargaining units at AT&T for your early preparations to secure a decent contract.
Ultimately the success of any negotiation depends upon the united will and determination of workers whose standard of living is on the line at the bargaining table.
We seek a reasonable contract that properly rewards your efforts that have done so much to strengthen AT&T’s market share and profitability in a competitive industry.
We already know that the costs of health insurance will be a pivotal issue in the negotiations and we are prepared to address that issue head-on.
I am hopeful that reason will prevail at the bargaining table. We will be presenting the company with a rational and progressive plan to reduce healthcare spending without overburdening our members with excessive costs or scaling back on medical services.
I want to take this opportunity to publicly ask AT&T to take our union’s proposal very seriously. The IBEW wants a productive negotiation with no disruption of the company’s operations. These negotiations should help, not hurt, the building of a healthy and productive relationship between the parties into the future.
We are ready to bargain, but we are always willing to stand up for what we believe is fair and just.
— I.P. Edwin D. Hill
